Humble Beginnings

Sydney’s life began humbly when he was born two months pre-mature, abandoned in Children’s Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, and given a 10% chance of survival due to serious medical complications. As an infant, Sydney endured several lifesaving surgical procedures. He was blessed to survive his early struggles. Later, as a toddler, he was adopted by the loving Harrison family (of Upper Marlboro, Prince George’s County). Always grateful for his family and his humble beginnings Sydney stated, “The love of the District 9 Community saved me and gave me a chance to dream, serve, and give back to those who gave so much to me.” In November of 2014, Sydney was elected to serve as the Clerk of the Court for Prince George’s County. Sydney is especially proud to serve as the Clerk of Court, in the same courthouse where he was adopted!

Grounded in the Community

One of Sydney’s greatest accomplishments is being the proud father of his son, Jerrell, a senior at High Point University, North Carolina and a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated. Sydney was educated in the Prince George’s County Public School system and is a proud graduate of Frederick Douglass High School, in Upper Marlboro, MD. He later became a small business owner, a dedicated community leader, and a successful realtor. Sydney is also a faithful member of Union Bethel A.M.E. Church, Brandywine, MD.

Paying it Forward

In 2008, Sydney founded the annual Our Little Angel Toy Drive, benefiting deserving children and families. He also served as the head coach of the South Bowie Sharks and Upper Marlboro Mustangs youth soccer teams. Sydney continues to serve the community by volunteering for Principal for-a-Day and Read Across America, speaking in support of anti-bullying, and feeding the homeless. Sydney also traveled to South Africa and the Dominican Republic to help raise awareness for Orphans and provide pediatric aide, for the fight against AIDS and famine.

Proof Positive

In his leadership role as the Clerk of the Court, Sydney successfully manages a high performing team of 208 employees and oversees $58 million in annual revenue. During his tenure, Sydney successfully streamlined the operations of the Clerk’s Office by improving workflow processes, elevating service delivery, and instituting his widely acclaimed “We Care Standard” initiative.

Sydney is a dedicated elected member of the Prince George’s County Democratic Central Committee, representing District 27, he is also a member of the Brandywine North Key’s Civic Association. Sydney is very compassionate and works diligently to stay connected to the community.

The community’s concerns are Sydney’s concerns!
